Football Trading Strategy

This time next year we’ll be millionaires 💰

There are many ways to win at FootballSX. In today’s blog, I will share a baker’s dozen of approaches.

Players: Play the Man!

  • Superstars win prizes: The biggest name players are famous for a reason; they are the best performers, and in turn, they have the best chance of winning payouts in the ‘Player of the Week’ (PotW) competition. This can boost your returns on a player. Superstars tend to be steady price performers, similar to blue-chip companies in the stock market.
  • Wonderkids are wonderful: Everybody loves the prospect of spotting the next Messi or Ronaldo. If you have a keen eye for spotting talent, the returns could be explosive. You can also hold your stakes for an indefinite period and win returns in our PotW competition for as long as you choose, before eventually choosing a time of your liking to sell.
  • Rough diamonds: Players you’ve always believed had more talent than they’ve shown. FootballSX prices are built on performances, and an underperforming player will likely have headroom to grow their price if they can harness their full potential.
  • Down on their luck: Formerly good players, for whatever reason, who have lost form. If you believe form is temporary, but class is permanent, these cigar butts could be right up your street.

Trading Tactics: It’s a results business, baby!

  • Fixture-based: A combination of soft-looking and tightly clustered fixtures could be a recipe for profit. If a player performs well in this scenario, you will most likely make good returns.
Watchouts: i) football is unpredictable and ii) be early! A surge of investment on a player will see their price rise rapidly… remember a part of a player’s value in FootballSX is driven by demand, every additional share bought drives a premium on the next share.
  • Form-based: Strike while the iron is hot! Nothing is simpler to understand than a player in form. Once you see a player hit a hot streak, you can predict two things: i) he will be popular, and that alone will drive price, and ii) the game formula rewards recency; points are at their most valuable when just scored due to our depreciation game model, where points devalue over a 100-week period (-1% per week).

Trading Strategies: The market in the short-term is a popularity contest, in the long-term it’s an accounting machine.

  • Swim against the tide: Be a contrarian. If you swim against the tide and come up trumps, you are likely to make bigger returns. Backing a horse that is an outsider will yield a far bigger payout in the pools than in the bookies, due to its unpopularity yielding a bigger share of the pot. FootballSX operates on a similar pool-betting model, but note that this is a high-risk strategy.
  • Spread your bets: If your portfolio is one or two players, a serious injury or a sale to leagues outside of Europe’s top 5 will likely hit your investment as owners rush to sell.
  • Injuries: On the face of it, a player gets injured, you sell. But hang on, if a lot of people sell and the player's price drops, and the injury turns out to be not so bad… then it could be a buying opportunity for customers focused on longer-term payback.
  • Be an expert at something: You don’t need to know everything. You just need to know more than the market in one area. It could be being a specialist in one of the leagues in the game or being an expert on players from your country or whatever your niche is. You just need an edge to get ahead.
  • Pick a team: If you think a team is getting stronger, invest in several players across that team. Even if you don’t get it right with one, if your hypothesis is right, you will likely make positive returns. Note this can be risky if you are wrong. Alternatively, if there is a team you think is rubbish, you can apply a short-term approach by buying players from the opposition when they are playing that team.
  • Follow the market: The market is never wrong, or so they say! An easy approach is to follow the money, buy and sell whatever the market is doing. Ride the coat-tails of the real experts 💰.
  • Gut instinct: If all of the above is not for you, your gut instinct rarely fails. Buy and sell what you see. Trust your judgement. You’re the captain; it’s your journey, dependent on your decisions!
